GOING TO SCHOOL.

Updated: May 18, 2023

One rule - just don't yell - Jessica Kielman

Going to school between the age of six and sixteen is the law, learning in school is not.

If children and young people do not attend school, there are people to ask why because it is not acceptable.

It is against the law.

If students do not learn in school, there is no one, apart from a parent to ask why because this is acceptable.

To secure a worthwhile and meaningful education is the main reason that children and young people go to school.

However, although learning is positive, useful and an interesting, it is not required by law or an absolute necessity, one will not be fined or put in jail because they have stopped learning.

If young people are left in peace to learn other factors as is their privileges come into play, do they have kind and good teachers? friendly peers? do they have help on board from parents, neighbours, family and friend? including the help from being able to access grinds and extra tuition if needs be.

Even with all the above in place, sometimes it is not enough.

One cannot say for sure why there are children and young people who do not learn and achieve the best results possible, however it is worth remembering it might not always be the student's choice not to learn, it might be because they are being bullied.

Being BULLIED in school is one reason children and young people are unable to learn, one cannot learn until all survival needs are met first.

There are also other factors.

Factors like a peaceful place to learn, (no bullying) a place where there is equality (no bullying) a place to be independent (no bullying) and have breathing space to learn (no bullying).

State of the art school buildings, different methods of teaching and a different curriculum will come to pass over the coming years.

However, students being in a happy and healthy environment (no bullying) where they are in control of their time (no bullying) to learn (no bullying) is as important as any of the above mentioned.

Good academic results and good emotional intelligence make a great combination.

Being in a happy and healthy environment is necessary for students to learn. (no bullying)

Who will ever know a young person's true ability and potential are if students only instinct is to survive in a school environment because they are being bullied in school.

Is it ever possible to do both, to try to survive in school while trying to learn lessons in school?

The experts say no. (no to bullying)

Schools by themselves may fail to achieve a happy, welcoming and healthy environments inside schools if they fail to welcome parents to come inside too.

Children and young people need to see both, parent and teacher/school working together with mutual respect, using open and ongoing communication.

Who know children and young people better than their own parent do?

Nobody and yet parents have no place in schools and in the Education System. Nowhere that guarantees their voice would be heard.

We know that children and young people are depending on the grownups around them to secure them a full, proper and meaningful education.

Society is depending on parents and teachers; indeed, the whole nation is.

Answers to exam questions will give good academic results, answers to stop bullying in schools will give good emotional results for everyone concerned, but parents and educators have never had an open discussion about bullying.

We all desire a happy, welcoming and healthy environment in schools for our children and young people, every child has a right to a full, proper and meaningful education.

However, I believe this environment could only be created by parents and teacher/school working closely #together by demonstrating an eagerness to communicate with one another.

Is there another way?

By putting the happiness, wellbeing and intelligence, both academic and emotional intelligence of all children and all young people to the centre of our attention.

"The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."

- George Bernard Shaw

However, it hasn't, not to my knowledge.
