COLLECTIVE GROUP

Updated: May 13, 2023

Parents should be allowed to connect as a collective group of people.

I find it overwhelming that parents of families in education are not connected as a collective group of people.

That in times of need and times of trouble there is no guarantee of help from other parents who could offer their advice, support and guidance.

Parents need other parents who would be willing to speak and to share their thoughts and knowledge.

Parents are connected to schools, connected to students, connected to their children's teachers, there are parents who are on the Boards of Management, and there are parents helping schools by being a member of the Parent's Association.

But do parents help one another?

What is stopping parents making a connection?

A connection that could be facilitated by the Education System and that would be welcomed by schools.

If parents are seen to be there for one another, if parents are seen to support one another, if parents are seen to work with the idea of equality for all parents, if parents are seen to be willing to share their own knowledge with other parents who need help, and if parents are seen to be happy together, I can only imagine the positive influence this would have for student.

Parents send their children to school for an education.

Parents need a place in schools, but where would this place be and what would it be?

One who never asks either knows everything or nothing,

- Malcolm Forbes

Sometimes it feels like parents are afraid to ask questions, why is this when it is what we should be teaching our children to do?

"The key to wisdom is this - constant and frequent questioning, for by doubting we are led to question, by questioning we arrive at the truth." - - Peter Abelard
